Church – Not for the likes of you

Here is some of the initial feedback from the “Church – not for the likes of you!” publicity campaign.

“What a cheek!”
“How dare you say something like that!”
“Who do you think you are to judge me? Do you think that you are better than me?”

No big surprises there. Of course it is outrageous to suggest that there is any reason for people not being able to come to church.

But then we got some more feedback …

“That is exactly what I think! Church is not for the likes of me”
“Church is for good people – the holy willies!”
“Church is for people whose lives are sorted – I would never fit in”

Over the next few months we are going to be sharing some stories of people who are part of the church here in Whiteinch. Not super-saints, not holy willies, just normal people. People a lot like you and me. A single mum with two kids recovering from a messy split and finding love again; a recovering gambler who has found new hope and new meaning in life; a student who loves to party but also loves to worship; a working guy dealing with the pressures of work and family but who still wants to give by helping to lead in church.

We hope that you will get the very clear message.

Church is for the likes of you! It is a place where everyone is welcome. A place where no matter who we are or what our life’s like we know that we will be accepted, supported and loved.

We hope that you won’t take our word for it. We hope that you’ll come and check us out and see if what we are saying is true.

You would be most welcome.
